Emma & Pride & Prejudice
The youngest of seven children, Jane was born to George and Cassandra Austen, a Kentish family, in December 1775. Her early childhood was influenced by her father's parsonage and close companionship with elder sister Cassandra. After schooling at Oxford, and on recovering from a bout of long illness, Ms Austen began writing, initially as an entertaining pre-occupation; and gave up formal education. She never married, was adept at good house-keeping, embroidery, sewing, and actively followed the lives of her family members. Her exposure to the contemporary middle class society sharpened her imagination and enabled her to produce parodies and sentimental fiction. Mostly a home lover, she travelled sparingly, yet her works refreshingly embody the wit and the modern thought.
