A Handbook Of Personal Management Practice
This handbook, now extensively revised, has become a definitive text on the basic techniques and principles of personnel management. Looking at every aspect of the personnel manager's role, it presents an integrated picture of personnel management as a vital function in any enterprise. Personnel management is defined as being concerned with obtaining, organizing and motivating human resources. In the first part of the book, personnel objectives and activities are discussed and the role of the personnel function examined, while personnel management is itself divided into the five main areas as laid down by the Institute of Personnel Management.
The bulk of the book concentrates on these five main areas - organization, manpower, motivation, employee relations, and employee and personnel services. These sections include advice and information on recruitment and selection, contracts of employment, redundancy, training, management development, performance appraisal, wage payment systems, industrial relations, in-company communication, health and safety at work, welfare services and keeping records and statistics.
Appendices include a statement of personnel objectives, procedures and policies for promotion and discipline, procedures for redundancy and presentation of grievances and training techniques. ´useful.... positive
